Magazine Writer

From my first published article for Playbill theater magazine—about scoring free theater tickets by dressing up as a nerd—to my current work writing health and lifestyle features for magazines including Real Simple, Parents, Good Housekeeping, and Prevention, I’ve written for more than 40 consumer publications over the past few decades. My features have covered every possible stage of a woman’s life, from teen angst to senior caregiving, from careers to weddings to reproductive health. I’ve also written extensively about theater, nutrition, fitness, mental health, and relationships; I’ve picked up a few MIN and Folio awards along the way, and I’ve written a book: Deliver This! Make the Childbirth Choice That’s Right For You—No Matter What Anyone Else Thinks (Seal Press). There is still nothing I love more than the challenge of a new assignment and a blank page to fill.

Digital Content Creator

In the digital domain, my work includes creating extensive content for consumer-facing health sites such as IU Health, YaleMed, BlueCrossBlueShield, and Care.com, as well as dozens of personal essays and cultural critiques for popular blogs such as PurpleClover.com. I also work with brands to create original content that combines the quality and voice of magazine work with the speed and clickability of the digital world. I’ve written, produced, and photo-edited 100+ articles for RealSimple.com (click here for my author portal) and created sponsored content for everything from Broadway shows and reality TV to gourmet chocolates and organic mattresses. Editor

The first half of my career involved long-term senior editorial staff positions at Seventeen, Elle, Mirabella, Glamour, and Time Out New York; in 2013–14 I was part of the tiny start-up staff that created Hearst’s Dr. Oz: The Good Life. As a freelancer, I love the challenge of jumping in to help out when a print or digital publication needs short-term help. My many fill-in positions have included stints at Brides, Fit Pregnancy, Prevention, American Baby, and Real Simple.
